A description of the school's current activity by Edward Dodson.

More than four decades have gone by since Robert Clancy wrote the early history. The Henry George School of Social Science in New York City has gone through a good deal of change, relocating — but remaining in Manhattan — several times to accommodate a changing educational market. Today there is more competition than ever before for the time and energy of a population focused on skill development and competition for employment opportunities. In response the school has strived to make its courses and programs as meaningful as possible. Students gain valuable insight into how the world works and how their lives are impacted by societal institutions. Seminars on Wall Street and lectures by prominent civic leaders are offered. Reaching our youth has also become a priority. Beginning in the 1970s, the School expanded its program to include the development of materials for use by high school social studies teachers, including video programs on economics and U.S. history.

Since the late 1980s the School has been located at 121 East 30th Street, in Manhattan. The School’s main campus enrolls between 1,200 and 1,500 students annually.

The Philadelphia Henry George School Birthplace Museum is an extension of the New York Henry George School. It has a more modest program but is located in a building of historical significance — Henry George’s birthplace. Acquired in the 1957 for the Henry George School of Social Science by 14 donors including Cecil B. DeMille, Henry George’s birthplace has now served as the School’s Philadelphia location for fifty years. In 1989 for the sesquicentennial of George’s 1839 birth the building was nearly rebuilt from the ground up and restored to its original appearance.

Other extensions and affiliates of the Henry George School continue in Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The Henry George School offers a set of 20 lessons in both Economics and U.S. history. The lesson plans include readings, activities and performance objectives, and are designed to be compatible with existing curriculum. The Economics lessons fit Georgist principles into a discussion of mainstream economic terms — and they include a hyperlinked glossary of terms (and a crossword puzzle!)
